We (they, us) operate in deliberately literal ‘Neighbouring Field’ to the by now mega-industries of traditional Landscape Architecture or Garden Design, becoming specialists in the sites, gardens or outdoor spaces others might well overlook…

Neighbouring Fields Collective is an informal yet powerful grouping of landscape colleagues, friends and industry professionals.
Together, we respond to competition briefs, open calls; driving landscape architectural research through fun and speculation.
Neighbouring Fields therefore isn't only about the skills or drive two people. We bring in colleagues from across the landscape industry, each with skills and experience of their own.
It works both ways. Their input makes the work better, and the work is better again for carrying more than one voice. The Collective is how Neighbouring Fields takes on larger landscape scopes, and competitions, both realisable sites and speculative.
Equally, as a Collective we continue to engage in landscape research and research-based education, pushing landscape ideas and ideals further than a single commission usually allows.

As both a Studio & Collective, Neighbouring Fields regularly undertakes ‘Landscape Assessments’ for a commitment-free fee.
We use in-person and digital-only techniques developed in-house by Neighbouring Fields.

Together with the landscape, and you, its custodian, we work to design and agree a way forward across all scales and timelines; a metaphorical seed-to-forest process.

A small garden in Hackney that gathers four years of nomadic plant collection across the city. Plants that carry stories, plants that carry memories.

Labour of Paradise
South Bohemia, Czech Republic
Very much a conceptual project, tracks have been made, and a process of emergency set underway for on a tree-based sculptural piece.

Casa Mariposa
Mallorca, Spain
Traditional, yet with a Neighbouring Fields flare, the gardens of Casa Mariposa are now over two years old, settling the architecture into the Mallorcan hillside.

We understand that as an emerging practice, we need to offer credibility to our thoughts and existence, and of course, (low) fees! Together with our listed projects and ongoing business development, we hope our past experiences will do some of the talking.

Juan is a registered Architect from the Universidad de Chile. He practiced as a Landscape Architect in Chile across a wide range of scales and project, working from concept development through to construction.
Due to his academic excellence and professional achievements, he was awarded a Chilean National Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Landscape Architecture at UCL in the United Kingdom.
Following graduation, he worked on projects across London and Cambridge for award-winning Landscape Architect’s J&L Gibbons before founding Neighbouring Fields.
Sam is an emerging Landscape Architect and Creative Project Manager with a broad, cross-disciplinary background founded in multi-scale design, production and promotion.
Having also studied the Bartlett School of Architecture, during which he earned three Landscape Architecture awards, including the overall MLA Bartlett Medal and Environmental and Technical Design Prize, he has recently concluded a tenure at Foster + Partners, working on Oxford’s Ellison Institute of Technology suite of projects.
